The Society for Natural Resources Conservation is dedicated to protecting and preserving the natural world all around us from a wide variety of threats. We recognize that our environment faces perils on almost every front but particularly concentrate our efforts on issues of human consumption of natural resources. Our mission is to raise regional, national, and global awareness about use of natural resources and to take action to effect change. We strive to keep sustainable use at the forefront of people's mind through education and campaigns, and make it easier to engage in environmental conservation. We will be aware of and embrace different interests in order to maximize energy and effectiveness of our organization, and we think that educating ourselves is crucial on our path to educating others. Following in this spirit, we invite you to learn more about the campaigns run and the issues behind them.
Currently, our main campaign is a "PEACE" (Plastic Eradication And Compost Enforcement) campaign. This involves a PVC-FREE committee (determined to get dangerous PVC plastics out of Cornell's building materials), compost monitoring in campus eateries, and reducing plastic bags at the Cornell Store. However, there are many other side projects, including regular gorge clean-ups, documentary screenings, sustainability events, and community volunteer days.
