What is Snodgrass & Wigglesworth?
The Few. The Proud. The Snodwiggs. (2009)
Snodgrass & Wigglesworth (or "Snodwiggs" for short) was founded in November of 2005 when a bunch of entomology undergrads got together and said, "Hey, we're pretty cool!" They then realized that it would be even cooler to find other people who enjoyed bugs just as much and to share their enthusiasm with the Cornell and Ithaca communities. Taking its name from two of the most influential entomologists of the 20th century, Snodgrass and Wigglesworth is dedicated to the study and appreciation of all invertebrate organisms and is open to Cornell undergraduates of any discipline (no prior insect knowledge is required!). In the past, the club has hosted a variety of guest speakers, planned camping and insect-collecting trips, participated in entomological outreach, and gotten together for bad bug flicks and beverages (with the occasional fried insect). See our About Us link for more information!
In addition to collecting, outreach, and having a good time, S & W is also on the hunt for the larvae of the scorpion fly Merope tuber. Although it is found in this area, it is very rare and its larval stage has never been identified! We hope to correct this problem ASAP.
