Grandmaster Larry Christiansen

We're happy to announce that this Friday, Grandmaster Larry Christiansen will be visiting Cornell to give a lecture/lesson and a simul! Larry was a three time US Chess Champion and holds a 2586 FIDE rating.

This will take place during our normal chess meeting, so make sure you come to 166 Martha Van Renesslar at 6:00 on Friday, 3/30. Larry will play up to 35 boards simultaneously and spots will be given on a first come first serve basis. People who have come to meetings consistently are guaranteed spots. All skill levels of all ages are welcome. Food will be provided.

!!Bring your own boards!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jasper Wu ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Hope to see you Friday.

Time Change

Based on the results of the poll sent out in email last week, it appears more people would be able to make our meetings if they were on Friday instead of Wednesday. Therefore, we'll now be meeting Friday at the same place - Martha Van Renesslar 166S at 6:00. Next meeting to be 2/24

Also, we are expecting a visit from GM and former US Champion Larry Christiansen in early March. More details to be announced soon.

Books

Jasper Wu distributed some chess books in a previous meeting

If you didn't have a chance to get the books for whatever reason, please come to a meeting and get them. Make sure you bring something with at least 6.4 GB for them then.

Since our funding results don't come out until early October, we can't go to tournaments with other schools until then. Near the beginning of October we'll be holding matches to determine who makes the team. I'm guessing we'll have roughly 5-7 people on the A team with a backup and the same for the B team.

Reminder we meet Mondays and Fridays at 5:00 in Hollister 314.

For those who received chess books from me Friday, you'll see some of the books are in DjVu format. This is advice from Pierre on how to read them:
