Our response to this problem [of malaria] will define this generation - Cynthia Scharf (Public Info. Officer United Nations OCHA)

Welcome to Cover Africa

Cover Africa was founded on the initiative of taking a more active role in the prevention of a disease that takes the life of one African child every thirty seconds. Our goals are threefold: Increase malaria awareness on campus and in the Ithaca community, Help prevent malaria through educational and physical initiatives and Distribute insecticide-treated bed nets to those in need.

Help Us Stop Malaria

Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease, yet, on average, malaria is killing an African child every 30 seconds. Because malaria is passed on by mosquitoes that bite humans after dark, we can save lives by providing insecticide treated bed nets to cover children and families so they can sleep in safety. By providing education to recognize when children have malaria and access to medication to treat it, we can save lives.

From Cynthia Scharf

Public Information Officer, United Nations OCHA (Jan. 3rd, 2007) "Our response to this problem will define this generation. What will you say when your children ask you, 'How did you let so many women and children die when you had the ability to save them and you knew?' Will we say that we didn't care, that we didn't care enough? This situation is solvable."
