Cornell Venture Capital Information Session

Come to The Cornell Venture Capital Club (CVC) information session to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how to join. CVC brings venture capitalists, students, and entrepreneurs together. CVC hosts prominent guest lecturers on campus and provides high-potential undergraduates internship experience in the venture capital industry through its VC internship program. VC Internship Recruitment:

  • Hands on experience with real VC projects
  • Interact directly with venture capitalists
  • Past projects include market research, competitive analysis, and assessing the viability of new product
  • Hone presentation, research, and computing skills

Join us Tuesday, January 31 to see RRE Ventures General Partner Will Porteous discuss "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: Case Studies From a Venture Portfolio." Will focuses on early and expansion stage investments across RRE’s multiple technology verticals, with a concentration on enterprise, consumer & digital media and mobile technology. Before joining the venture capital industry, Mr. Porteous held senior management positions in marketing and product management with SupplyWorks and NetMarket, the e-commerce pioneer now owned by Cendant Corp. Mr. Porteous is a Director of Buzzfeed, Data Robotics, HowAboutWe, Peek, Skyhook Wireless, Whiptail and Xobni and a former Director of Frictionless Commerce (acquired by SAP) and Tacit Networks (acquired by PKTR). Mr. Porteous holds an MBA from Harvard University, an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA with Honors from Stanford University.

Eric leads Canaan's investments in cleantech, with a focus on identifying next generation leaders in electric power and energy efficiency, and also invests in enterprise and communications infrastructure companies. Prior to Canaan, Eric worked in a variety of positions at GE culminating in a Senior VP role of GE Venture Capital.

We are pleased to invite Jerry McLaughlin Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Branders.com to our next meeting. Branders.com is an online promotional products distributor based in San Mateo, California.

Before co-founding Branders.com in May 1999, Mr. McLaughlin was with Altos Ventures; a venture capital firm focused on making early stage investments in companies and entrepreneurs.

Mr. McLaughlin was also CEO of Enwisen, the first Internet-based clearinghouse of employee benefit information between insurers and large employers. While at Enwisen, Mr. McLaughlin negotiated distribution deals with Netscape and top ranked insurance and insurance brokerage companies. Enwisen's clients included Longs Drugs, Yahoo! and the Washington Post.

Before Enwisen, Mr. McLaughlin practiced business law with Cooley Godward of Palo Alto, California. There, Mr. McLaughlin worked with emerging growth companies, venture capitalists, and investment bankers in Silicon Valley.

Mr. McLaughlin earned his Jurist Doctorate with honors from Temple University and holds a degree with honors in Economics and English from the University of Pennsylvania.
