Spiritual Formation

Prayer

While we have many strengths in this area (prayer partners, some prayer meetings, prayer in Bible study), we need to work on several areas:

  1. Corporate prayer and what that means in GCF
  2. Incorporating prayer into each GCF activities (How do our events demonstrate that we are uniquely Christian?)
  3. More commitment among members to dedicated times of prayer (group prayer).
Bible Study Application

People expressed the desire that the studies have more application. That needs to be worked on because our group is very academically minded, but we also need to be sure not to pull applications out solely for the purpose of having an application.

Studies that develop our knowledge and understanding of God and Scripture are important and while we may feel there is no immediate practical application, we are developing our character and transforming into the image of Christ. It is also important to apply what we learn to our lives to deepen our understanding and strengthen our faith.

Aware of Climate

We are in an intellectual climate and are interacting with people that enjoy rigorous discussion and debate. We need to be aware of this climate so that we can provide an atmosphere that fosters intellectually rich discussion while not becoming oppressively analytical or caustic. There needs to be room for people to be comfortable with discussion and not feel that they are being debated. There also needs to be a commitment to disciple those who are entering such discussions for the first time.

Peer Mentoring

We have a unique opportunity to strengthen and challenge our peers in their Christian walk. We do this well to an extent, but we can grow in our ability as a group to be open with each other about how God is working in our lives.
