Since Information Science at Cornell is still a relatively small program, and spread across three colleges, it can be very difficult for IS students to get to know each other, faculty, and all of the career opportunities open to us. Therefore, as an organization, we strive to create a community within the program so that Information Science students have a forum to voice their thoughts, learn about what’s going on in the program, and meet their peers outside the classroom setting.
Our mission is to:
- To connect Information Science (IS) and Information Science, Systems, and Technology (ISST) students with one another and with faculty through special events and activities.
- To serve as a bridge between current students and alumni.
- To provide students with information regarding career opportunities, internships, graduate schools, professional associations, and research opportunities in the field of information science and technology through web based and print resources and information sessions.
- To inform others, both inside and outside of Cornell, of the IS and ISST majors.
Besides what’s mentioned, the benefits of becoming an ISSA member include access to information about on campus recruiting, notifications about upcoming events, and inclusion in our annual Resume Book (not to mention a very cool t-shirt).
