Trainings
- Anna can lead trainings for new and existing members on media,
recruitment, outreach, campaign strategy, etc.
- Anna will bring sheet next week with choices for new members to
prioritize what they want to learn the most.
NY Climate Summit
- Voted in support of organizing the summit for November 16-18, 2007.
- Goals are to 1) unite students around the state, and 2) come up with a
plan with campus and community groups to win passage of strong global
warming legislation in Albany.
- Contact Carlos (cmr55) for anything about it or to be on planning
committee.
- Have to figure out logistics (housing, food, transportation, agenda,
etc.), budget requests, etc. Have to identify campus/community groups (SSC
help)
Green Fee
- In the past, members have met with administrators; there have been many
complications.
- May need to start @ the Student Assembly (SA) again.
- Carlos will invite Dean to next week’s meeting to see where we can go
with that.
- Meeting this week. Contact Kenny to attend.
Sustainable Investment Initiative
- Sustainability Hub will coordinate this effort.
- KyotoNOW! has interest in Cornell’s energy investments.
- Coalition-based initiative.
- First meeting in September. Contact Carlos (cmr55) for more.
Climate Neutral Goal Follow-Up
- Lanny Joyce from the Kyoto Task Team needs ideas from students on how to
achieve the goal.
- Dean suggested that we seek the support of AASHE (the Association for
the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education; www.aashe.org) with
the Clinton Initiative, which will loan money at no interest for campus
renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
Conferences/Speakers/Events
- Bill McKibben on Sept. 26th. They need funding.
- Dr. Arjun Makhijani. Needs funding and coordination. Maybe for next
semester.
- Powershift 2007, www.powershift2007.org. Nov. 2-5. First ever national
youth climate conference. Will bring 3,000-5,000 youth to D.C. We may
request funding for transportation.
- Step It Up 2, www.stepitup07.org. Nov. 3rd. We have to decide what to do
for those who will stay here.
- Natalie Vandawall, from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, is
at Cornell teaching about the IPCC process and reports. We can set up an
event where she speaks. Robert can connect us.
- Picnic next weekend @ 1:30PM, followed by cleanup. Meet by the slope.
