Into the Street 2007
Assalaamu Alaikum,
On Saturday, October 27, 2008, Cornell will be hosting Into the Streets,
where hundreds of people come together for a full day of service in
Ithaca and surrounding communities. Volunteers come together at Barton
Hall and are
assigned varying tasks aimed to improve and become familiar with people
outside of Cornell.
Volunteers can either sign up individually or as teams of up to 12. (If
no one objects, we can form teams so that people can get to know each
other.) Anyone interested should e-mail Zubair at
zaa4@cornell.edu. Also indicate whether you'd like to be a team
leader.
Into the Streets
16th Annual Day of Service
Saturday, October 27, 2007
For fifteen years, Into the Streets has been introducing students to the
local
community. The mission of ITS is to promote a lifetime commitment
to service
amongst college students.
Since 1992, Into the Streets, a student-led program of the Cornell
Public Service Center, has sponsored and planned a fall day of service
to provide hundreds of Cornell students the opportunity to volunteer
throughout the community.
Last year, the 15th Annual Day of Service turned out to be the largest
day of
service in Cornell's history, registering over 1,100 volunteers to do
service on
October 28, 2006. For the first time ever, Into the Streets sent
volunteers to
complete valuable and beneficial community work in three counties:
Tompkins County, Cortland County, and Broome County. For the past
two years, in 2005 and 2006, Mayor Carolyn Peterson proclaimed each day
of service "Into the Streets Day" in the City of Ithaca.
Building on the past history of Into the Streets and the momentum of
last year's success, Into the Streets is currently planning its 16th
annual day of service, which will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007.
The kickoff ceremony and registration will be held in Barton Hall on
Cornell's campus.
