[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ur annual Teaching & Training Project (TTP) brings a team of 5-7 Cornell volunteers to China to teach students from rural communities. The application process is open to all interested Cornell undergraduate and graduate students, and no teaching experience or Chinese language skills are necessary. Spend your summer immersed in a program that brings together volunteers from all over the world. Read about our past projects here.
Our projects are about more than just teaching. They are about making a real connection and friendship with the students and engaging in cross-cultural exchange. Our volunteers develop their own lesson plans and are integral in shaping the curriculum and organization of the program. Past volunteers have found the program to be “life-changing” and the “most amazing experience” of their lives. The following are characteristics of successful volunteers:
• Enthusiastic about working with students of all ages
• Passionate and/or curious about Chinese/Tibetan culture and education in rural areas
• Adaptable, open-minded, and flexible
• Team-oriented and supportive
• Responsible, reliable, and respectful
• Positive, upbeat, and energetic
The application process occurs during the spring semester. Application materials can be found here in February and are due in early March each year. We provide partial subsidies to help cover airfare. The amount of the subsidy varies from year to year depending on the amount of funding available.
