Spring 2012 Events

First General Body Meeting
Saturday, January 28 - 2:00 pm - B20 Lincoln Hall
We will be going over many topics, including lesson policies and officer and committee positions. We will begin spring sign-ups and accept payments (we recommend having your payment ready to speed up the pairing process - please see Lessons for more details). This is where you can meet all of the officers personally and ask any questions about lessons, the club in general, etc. We will have open piano time at the end of the meeting, so bring music to play on the grand piano!

Weekly General Body Meetings
Saturdays - 2:00 pm - B20 Lincoln Hall
CPS hosts general meetings weekly in Lincoln Hall room B20. They run from 2:00 to 3:00 pm every Saturday. This is a great way to come learn more about the club, meet other members, make your voice heard, and enjoy open piano time at the end of each meeting!

Video Game Night
Friday, February 3 - 8:00 pm - Appel Commons
Do you like Rock Band? Or how about Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros? Come to our popular video game night and meet all the piano-loving members for a night of non-piano fun! The first 15 people to attend will receive free bubble tea!

What Every Pianist Needs to Know About Their Piano - Workshop by Ken Walkup
Saturday, February 4 - 2:00-4:00 pm - B20 Lincoln Hall
Mr. Ken Walkup, Cornell's very own piano technician, will be giving a talk on how pianos work and how to maintain them. In his own words, "Rather than talk just about the mechanical workings of the piano, I would like to talk about what I think pianists most need to know about their instrument. So, I would like to include things like why a piano goes out of tune, other technical info about tuning, care and maintenance, etc."

Mr. Walkup will speak for the first hour and then follow up with a Q&A session for up to an hour. Admission is free, and everyone is invited to attend.

Deadline for Student Lesson Request Form Submissions
Friday, February 10 - 11:59 pm
Please submit your lesson forms and payments by this date! We are implementing this deadline in order to increase efficiency and accuracy for sending out pairings. Also, students can receive the full worth of lessons when they are not enrolling halfway through the year.

Jazz Workshop
Saturday, February 18 - 2:00 pm
This class will be taught by Professor Paul Merrill. To learn more about Professor Merrill, click here. External link The workshop consists of two parts - an hour of lecture and an hour of practical on the piano. This class will teach you about basic jazz chords and improvisation. If you have never studied jazz before, this is a great place to start!

CPS on Ice
Saturday, February 18 - 8:00-10:00 pm - Lynah Rink
Come ice skate with all your CPS friends! Members have free admission and free skate rentals. If you don't know how to skate, come anyway - we'll teach you!
