North 2 (6 April 2008)

This week, Cornell hosted the North 2 regatta at our muddy (albeit beautiful) construction site of a sailing center. With the help of some boot washing buckets and live score updating from the water, the regatta went smoothly. Cornell sailed into a third place finish, qualifying for the America's Trophy yet again. Scott Grandt '08 and Laura Graham '09 finished second overall in A division, and Ian Cook '10 and Allison Chase '09 finished fourth in B division. NY Maritime and Hobart William Smith took first and second place, respectively. A special thanks to Charley Cook, father of Ian '10, for driving out from Boston to be our PRO, as well as Andrew Davis '01, Jon Rupp '00, and Dr. Sullivan for helping out both on and off the water.

Tom Noble Team Race (27 February 2008)

Six sailors from Cornell went to the Tom Noble Team Race over the weekend. They finished 7th overall after the double round robin was completed. A full regatta report will be posted shortly under the events section of the website. Thank you to Chauncey Joyce '09 for the picture.

A view from across the street... (18 February 2008)

By popular demand, a picture of the construction site from across the street. Despite a few trees in the foreground, this view should help people to see where the building will be situated on the property. For more pictures of construction click over to the pictures section.

Pre-Season Updates: Snow, Construction, and Team Racing (16 February 2008)

While the most recent winter storm dropped a foot of snow on Ithaca, the pace of construction has not let up. Most of the prep work for utilities has been completed and drainage systems are being worked on. The outline of the buildings footprint is visible since a trench has been dug and a foundation is ready to be poured. Sailboats have been replaced with Bobcat's and backhoes, but enough of the site is untouched that we will still be able to run our spring regatta. The season officially kicks off for the team next week. Six sailors will travel to Washington College for the Tom Noble Team Race. The event will provide the team with its first opportunity to hit the water this year.
