Join us in our discussion on Tuesday to share in Prof. Jaeger’s experience in academia.
Prof. Jaeger obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1991. He directed the Chicago Materials Research Center from 2001-2006, and currently is director of the UC-Argonne Consortium for Nanoscience Research and of the James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago. Prof. Jaeger received the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship in 1992 and a Research Corporation Cottrell Scholarship in 1994. In 1995 he was named one of Crain’s Chicago Business’ “40 under 40”, and in 2001 received the University of Minnesota Outstanding Achievement Award. He was appointed Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2002. His research interests focus on the understanding and control of materials, crossing the boundaries between “hard” condensed matter physics (electronic and magnetic properties of metals, semiconductors and superconductors) and “soft” condensed matter physics (fluid dynamics, bio-physics, nonlinear dynamics).
M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. students are all welcome, as well as members of the Cornell community. We will provide lunch as usual. This event is funded by the GPSAFC
