The Healthy Forest Initiative (HFI) executive order has been found to contain a hidden provision to eliminate all appeals on Forest Service decisions (you can find it on page 84 of the official proposal).

The FLNF's timber stand improvement proposal (TSI) hopes to clear out brush and small trees from around large, healthy ones - in itself, not a bad idea, though it does open the door for invasive species to flourish in the thinned areas. We feel the TSI should coincide with invasive species inventory and removal.

Why Protect Public Lands from Logging?

W hen most of us think of our public national forests we think of clean air and water, wildlife habitat, scenic beauty, hiking, fishing, hunting and unsurpassed opportunities to find peace and quite in an increasingly fast-paced world. Most American's are shocked when they learn that their national forests are open to commercial logging, roadbuilding and other forms of resource extraction.

Commercial logging and roadbuilding on our national forests has not only proven to be an ecological failure, but an economic failure as well. American taxpayers spend over $1 billion annually subsiding private logging companies to cut down our treasured national forests - all to supply less than 2% of our nation's wood products.
