| About the Teachers |
 |
| Joaquín Canay | |
| A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Joaquín Canay moved to Ithaca in August 2003 to join Rina Gendelman in teaching and performing.
He began dancing Tango as a teenager on the North Side of Buenos Aires. Joaquín has studied extensively under the tutelage
of Oscar Caballero. Marta Echeverry, Adrian & Sandra, the Blanco Family, Cesar & Isabel Fernandez, Davel, Maria & Roberto
Contreras, and the people of "La Casa de la Juventud" and "La Casona de Marta" have also had a significant impact on his
development as a dancer. Before moving to Ithaca, Joaquín lived in New York City, where he began teaching
and performing. Since he moved to the area, he has been teaching not only in Ithaca, but also in Geneva, Corning, Binghamton, and
other places as well, and giving special workshops in cities like Rochester, Scranton, Princeton, Hana, Pukalani, San Francisco,
Buffalo, and more. He focuses on the leader and follower relationship, and the connection between one and the other. His gentle and
enthusiastic approach to teaching creates classes to which one can look foward. |

| Juan Brache |
 |
Juan Brache was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the tradition of Latin dance styles. With Carlos Gardel
songs an every day event on local radio stations, tango music became a familiar tune for him already at an early
age. In 2000 a friend invited him to participate in a tango workshop. This invitation changed his lifestyle and he
vowed to dedicate himself to study Argentine tango. His instructors have included a number of well-known tango
teachers in group classes and privates lessons. These include Miguel Angel Zotto, Facundo and Kely Posadas, Carlos
Gavito and Marcela Duran, Mariana Galassi among others. In Buenos Aires he studied with Fernando Galera and Vilma
Vega. This diversity of teachers has formed the passionate style that Juan brings to his dancing and teaching. His
exhibitions include tango performances at the Community School of Music and Art in Ithaca, Hobart and William Smith
College, Queens University in Kingston, Canada, the Ithaca Festival and several benefit dances for the Cayuga
Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, NY. Juan has been assisting and teaching since 2002 in Geneva, and since 2005 in Ithaca. |
